Accio - Summoning spell.
Acid Pops - Wizard candy that burn holes in your tongue.
Aconite - Plant used in potions. Also goes by the names of Monkshood or Wolfsbane.
Alohomora - A spell used to unlock doors.
Animagi - A wizard who has the ability to change into animal form (singular form: animagus.)
Aparecium - A spell used to make invisible ink appear.
Apparate - To transport oneself to any destination instantly.
Auror - A wizard who catches Dark wizards as a profession.
Avada Kedavra - Killing curse (one of the Unforgivable Curses).
Azkaban - The wizard prison guarded by Dementors.

B:


Basilisk - A snake-like creature whos eyes kill. This creature is born from a chicken egg hatched beneath a toad.
Beater - A Quidditch player whos job is to hit the Bludgers toward members of the opposing team.
Beauxbatons - A French school for witchcraft and wizardry. This school was one of three to compete in the Triwizard Tournament.
Bertie Botts' Every Flavour Beans - Wizard jellybeans that come in every flavor.
Bezoar - A stone taken from the stomach of a goat that will cure most poisons.
Black Forest - A forest in Germany where Professor Quirrel encountered vampires.
Blast-Ended Skrewt - Crossbreeds of manitcores and a fire crabs, bred by Hagrid.
Bloody Baron, the - Resident ghost of Slytherin House.
Bludgers - Balls used in Quidditch to knock players off of their broomsticks.
Boggart - Shape-shifter that takes on the appearance of your worst fear.
Bubble-Head Charm - A charm used to create a bubble around one's head.
Bubotuber - Plant that resembles a black slug with swellings that contain a yellowish green liquid.
Burrow, The - Home of the Weasleys.
Butterbeer - A drink served in the Three Broomsticks.

C:


Canary Creams - Custard-cream biscuits, invented by Fred and George Weasley, that turn the eater into a canary.
Centaurs - A creature found in the Dark Forest that is half man and half horse.
Chamber of Secrets, the - A chamber created by Salazar Slytherin that contains a creature that can be controlled only by the heir of Slytherin to purge the school of Muggleborns.
Chaser - Quidditch player who scores points using the Quaffle.
Chocoballs - Wizard sweet that is full of strawberry mousse and clotted cream.
Chocolate Frogs - Chocolate frog-shaped candy. Each pack contains one Famous Witches and Wizards card.
Cockroach Clusters - Wizard candy made out of cockroaches.
Cruciatus curse - Inflicts pain upon the one it is used on (one of the Unforgivable Curses).

D:


Daily Prophet, the - Wizard newspaper.
Dark Mark, the - A sign of a skull with a serpent protruding from it's mouth. It was sent into the sky when Voldemort killed.
Death Eaters - Followers of Voldemort.
Dementor - Creature who feeds on the happy emotions of humans.
Deletrius - Spell used to make objects disintegrate.
Dervish and Banges - A wizard shop in Hogsmeade that sells wizard equipment.
Densaugeo - Spell used to make teeth grow.
Diagon Alley - A long street wizard shops.
Diffindo - Spell to make something split.
Disapparate - To disappear at will.
Dissendium - Spell that opens entrance to secret passage that leads to Hogsmeade.
Dr Filibuster's Fabulous No-Heat Wet-Start Fireworks - Wizard fireworks.
Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus - The Hogwarts motto which means "Never Tickle a Sleeping Dragon"
Draught of Living Death, the - Powerful sleeping draught.
Drooble's Best Blowing Gum - Wizard gum.
Dungbomb - Wizard Stinkbombs.
Durmstrang Institute - A school for witchcraft and wizardry in the far north that teaches it's students the Dark Arts.

E:


Eeylops Owl Emporium - A shop in Diagon Alley that sells owls.
Enervate - Spell used to revive someone.
Engorgio - Swelling charm.
Expecto patronum - Spell to guard against Dementors.
Expelliarmus - Disarming spell.
Exploding Bonbons - Wizard candy.
Exploding Snap - Card game.

F:


Fat Friar, the - Resident ghost of Hufflepuff House.
Fat Lady, the - The lady in the portrait guarding the entrance to Gryffindor Tower.
Ferula - Spell to conjure a sling for a broken limb.
Fidelius Charm - A charm that conceals a secret within a person so that no one will know about it unless the Secret-Keeper chooses to tell it.
Firebolt - A top-of-the-line broomstick used by Harry and professional Quidditch players.
Fizzing Whizbees - Sherbet balls that make you levitate when you eat them.
Flobberworm - Species of worm that Harry and his friends have to raise in Care of Magical Creatures.
Floo powder - A magical powder used to travel from one fireplace to another.
Florean Fortesque's Ice-Cream Parlour - An ice cream parlor in Diagon Alley.
Flourish and Blotts - A bookshop in Diagon Alley.
Foe-Glass - Magic mirror that shows you your enemies.
Forbidden Forest, the - A forest surrounding Hogwarts in which students are not aloud without a teacher.
Four-Point Spell - A spell invented by Hermione that points the wand due north.
Fudge Flies - Wizard candy.
Furnunculus - A curse that causes boils.

G:


Galleon - Gold coins used by wizards as currency.
Gambol and Japes - Wizard joke shop in Diagon Alley.
Gillyweed - A plant that causes the eater to grow gills and webbed toes and fingers.
Goblet of Fire - Cup filled with blue flames that chooses the competitors for the Triwizard Tournament.
Gobstones - A wizard version of marbles in which the pieces squirt a stinky substance into a players' faces when they lose a point.
Godric's Hollow - The town where Lily and James lived with baby Harry.
Golden Snitch - Small, golden ball about the size of a large walnut with silver wings used in Quidditch.
Grey Lady, the - Resident ghost of Ravenclaw Tower.
Grim - A giant black dog that is taken as a death omen.
Grindylow - Green water demons with horns and long fingers.
Gringotts - The wizard bank run by goblins located in Diagon Alley.
Grunnings - A drill company owned by Vernon Dursley.

H:


Hand of Glory - A hand that gives light only to the person holding it when a candle is inserted..
Headless Hunt, the - A group of ghosts who have all been decapatated.
Hebridean Black - A breed of dragons found in Britain.
Hinkypunk - Creatures that live in bogs and swamps, they wander about at night with a lantern to lure lost travellers into the swamps.
Hippogriff - A creature with the front of an eagle and the hind of a horse.
Hit Wizards - Wizards who are trained to deal with powerful criminals.
Hog's Head, the - A wizard pub where Hagrid one a dragon egg.
Hogsmeade - The only village that consists entirely of wizards and witches.
Hogwarts - School for witchcraft and wizardry founded over a thousand years ago by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin.
Honeydukes - A wizard sweet shop in Hogsmeade.
House-elf - An elf servant who must serve their master until their death or until they are granted clothes from their master.
Howler - A letter that, when opened, hollers at the recipient.

I:


Ice Mice - Wizard candy that makes your teeth squeak and chatter.
Impediment Jinx - Spell used to slow down and obstruct attackers.
Imperius curse - Spell used to control another person completely (one of the Unforgivable Curses).
Incendio - A spell that produces fire.

J:


Jelly-Legs Jinx - Makes a person's legs wobbly.
Jelly Slugs - Wizard candy.

K:


Kappa - A creatures that live in water and strangle people who invade their territory.
Keeper - Quidditch player who guards the hoops at the end of the fields.
Knight Bus, the - A wizard triple decker bus. Driven by Ernie Prang, the conductor is Stan Shunpike.
Knockturn Alley - A street like Diagon Alley with shops devoted to the Dark Arts.
Knut - Bronze coins used by wizards as currency. There are 29 knuts to a sickle.
Kwikspell - A course of magic for those who have little abbility with magic.

L:


Leaky Cauldron, the - The wizard pub in London. This is also the gateway to Diagon Alley.
Lumos - Spell to produce light at the tip of one's wand.

M:


Madam Malkins Robes For All Occasions - Shop in Diagon Alley that sells wizard robes.
Magical Law Enforcement Squad - Wizard police who are trained to deal with powerful criminals.
Magical Menagerie - A pet shop in Diagon Alley.
Mandragora - Another name for Mandrake.
Mandrake - A powerful restorative used to return cursed or transfigured people to their natural state. It's cry is fatal to anyone who hears it.
Marauder's Map - A map created by Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs (Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter) that shows people moving about the caste.
Merpeople - Creatures with fishtails, green hair and grey skin who built underwater cities at the bottom of the lake. Above water their voices are unintelligible.
Ministry of Magic - The wizard government that keeps it from muggles that there are still witches and wizards.
Mirror of Erised - A mirror that shows the onlooker his or her deepest desire.
Mobilarbus - A spell used to move objects.
Mobilicorpus - A spell used to move a person who can't walk.
Monkshood - Plant that also goes by the names of aconite or wolfsbane.
Moony - Remus Lupin's nickname at Hogwarts.
Morsmordre - Spell used to conjure up the Dark Mark.
Mudblood - A term used for muggleborns that is considered an insult.
Muggle - A pesron lacking magic powers.

N:


N.E.W.Ts - Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests.
Niffler - Black, furry creatures that sniff out gold.
Nox - A spell used to turn off the light at the end of one's wand..

O:


O.W.L.s - Ordinary Wizarding Levels.
Obliviate - A spell used to destroy a pesons memory. .
Ollivanders - A wand shop run by Mr. Ollivander in Diagon Alley.
Omnioculars - Magical binoculars with multiple settings including replay, and slow motion.

P:


Padfoot - Sirius Black's nickname at Hogwarts.
Parselmouth - Wizard who can talk to snakes - very rare. Thought to be the sign of a Dark wizard.
Parseltongue - Language spoken by a Parselmouth
Patronus - A force that gets rid of Dementors.
Pensieve - A basin containing a gaseous, liquid-like substance used to store thoughts.
Pepper Imps - Wizard candy that make you smoke from the mouth.
Peppermint Toads - Toad-shaped peppermint candy that hop in the eater's stomach after they've been eaten.
Pepper-Up Potion - A restorative.
Petrificus Totalus - A spell that binds the body.
Philosopher's Stone - A stone that will create the Elixer of Life and will turn almost any metal into pure gold.
Platform nine and three-quarters - The platform that Hogwarts students catch the Hogwarts Express on.
Polyjuice potion - A potion that transforms the drinker into someone else for an hour.
Portkey - An object, usually garbage or something that muggles won't pick up, that transports someone to a designated spot.
Prior Incantato - Spell that reveals the most recent spell a wand has performed.
Privet Drive - The street that the Dursleys live on.
Prongs - James Potter's nickname at Hogwarts.
Put-Outer - A cigarette lighter-like device used to put lights out.

Quaffle - A ball used by the Chasers to score points in Quidditch.
Quality Quidditch Supplies - A shop that sells Quidditch supplies in Diagon Alley.
Quick-Quotes Quill - A acid-green quill that writes newspaper articles (that are partly false) by itself.

Quietus - Spell that reverses the Sonorus spell.

R:


Reducio - Shrinking charm.
Reductor curse - A spell used to blast apart a solid object.
Relashio - Spell that makes someone let go of something.
Remembrall - A small ball that is filled with smoke, when the smoke turns red it means that you've forgotten something.
Reparo - Repairs broken objects.
Rictusempra - Tickling charm.
Riddickulus - Spell used to get rid of Boggarts.

S:


Secrecy Sensor - Antenna that vibrates when it detects concealment and lies.
Seeker - Quidditch player that catches the Golden Snitch.
Shield Charm - Casts a shield around you that deflects minor curses.
Shrieking Shack - An old house in Hogsmeade that is said to be the most severely haunted house in Britain.
Sickle - Silver coin that is used as wizard currency. There are seventeen Sickles to a Galleon.
Skele-Gro - Potion used to re-grow bones.
Sleekeazy's Hair Potion - Wizard hair-care product.
Smeltings - Dudley Dursley's private school.
Sneakoscope - Glass spinning top that lights up and spins when there is someone untrustworthy around.
S.P.E.W. - Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare Pressure.
Sonorus - Spell that magnifies one's voice.
Sorting Hat - The hat that places student's in one of four houses at Hogwarts (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw).
Spellotape - Wizard tape.
Splinching - Term used for when one apparates and leaves body parts behind.
Squib - Someone who is born to a wizard family who has no magical powers.
Stupefy - Stunning spell.
Swelling Solution - Potion that causes body parts to swell.

Tarantallegra - Dancing spell.
Three Broomsticks, the - A pub in Hogsmeade.
Time-Turner - Hour-glass that allows you to travel back in time.
Ton-Tongue Toffee - A candy invented by Fred and George Weasley that makes your tongue grow.
Toothflossing Stringmints - Wizard candy that flosses your teeth while you suck them.
Transfiguration Today - A wizard magazine about Transfiguration.
Triwizard Tournament - A tournament in which the champions of three schools compete.
Trueblood - Someone born to two magical parents.

U:


Unforgivable Curses - Three curses that when used will get you sent to Azkaban. The curses are Avada Kedavra, the Imperius curse and the Cruciatus curse.
Unspeakable - Employees of the Department of Mysteries. There jobs are top secret.

V:


Veritaserum - A potion that will make the drinker tell the truth.

W:


Weird Sisters, the - A popular band in the wizarding world.
Which Broomstick - A magazine about broomsticks.
Whomping Willow - A tree planted on the Hogwarts grounds that hits anything that comes close.
Wingardium Leviosa - A spell to make things levitate.
Wormtail - Nickname of Peter Pettigrew.
WWN - The Wizarding Wireless Network.
