Here you can find what the dedications in books
1-5 mean
Please e-mail me if you know who Mr Ridley and Susan Sladden are (dedication from GoF.)
"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"
for Jessica, who loves stories,
for Anne, who loved them too,
and for Di, who heard this one first.
Jessica is JK Rowling's daughter, Anne was her mother, and Di is JKR's sister who
in fact did here Philosopher's Stone first; JKR let her read it before seeking a publisher.
"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
For Sean P.F. Harris,
getaway driver and foulwaether friend
Sean P.F. Harris was JKR's good friend when she was in secondary school. They were
close because they were both "outsiders" - Sean joined late and Rowling didn't have the local accent. Sean would collect JKR
(in a Ford Anglia) and then they would drive off. Sometimes to a nearby bridge where they would drink and think about
life.
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azakaban"
To Jill Prewett and Aine Kiely,
the godmothers of Swing
Jill Prewett and Aine Kiely were JK Rowling's flat-mates when she lived in Portugal.
They used to party a lot so ... "godmothers of swing."
"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"
To Peter Rowling,
in memory of Mr Ridley
and to Susan Sladden,
who helped Harry out of his cupboard
Peter Rowling is JK Rowling's father. I am unsure of
the other two, though.
"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"
To Neil, Jessica and David
who make my world magical
Neil is JK Rowling's husband, Jessica her daughter, and David her
son.
